Get to know what I was up to before IBM and a few of my future plans as regards my objectives in life in the short video below.
My Reflection as a chair on this learning group session
Date of Class session: November 8, 2018
Module: 5
While preparing for this learning group session, I had to do some exercises such as writing down my SMART A (primary) and B (secondary) objectives, which I have shown above, drawing out a rough planning/ordering of my personal objectives according to time for the semester (which I have displayed it’s finished version in a previous post), etc. The estimated overall time when I’m not sleeping turned out to be 18 hours daily and 126 hours weekly because I sleep at most 6 hours daily.
Below is an overview of my then usual activities and how much time I spent on them weekly:
Personal time in the morning (thinking on the day, praying, studying the Bible, etc.): 14 hrs
School Attending classes, doing assignments and group projects: 32 hrs
Studying: 14 hrs
Blogging on social media (WordPress): 2 hrs
Writing on my social media platforms: 6 hrs
Keeping in touch with my family and friends: 6 hrs
House/Domestic chores: 12 hrs
Chatting on social media. Reading and watching blogs and vlogs on Social Media: 10 hrs
Watching movies: 10 hrs
Sleeping: 42 hours
Leisure/Spare for unexpected events
I didn’t think this overview was realistic as I have calculated 148 hours in total from my estimate while having 126 actual hours when I’m not sleeping in a week, so I went ahead to consider it critically together with the weekly plan table I drafted, I deduced that I skipped some of the activities listed above on some days of the week or even the entire week because I didn’t get the time to do them and probably used the time I should have used on it for some other activity. Sometimes, I chat on social media amidst other activities, except classes and some other very vital activities. Clear indicator that I need a better/more effective plan. I did draw out a better and more effective plan which is what you see in my previous post on planning.
The time wasters I discovered I had had been social media, movies and domestic chores and my time consumers are school activities (classes, studying, assignments, team projects), domestic chores, social media, movies, church work, etc.
During the chairing session, I made sure that as a chair, I explained the day’s activities to the participants, carried the note taker along (ensuring she has the main points of the agenda outcomes/activities and exercises already noted down), made sure one participant wasn’t too domineering and preventing others from sharing their thoughts, stimulate questions and answers from participants to help them understand the concepts being shared, etc .
I felt that the POMODORO technique I introduced to them and the thought-provoking questions, discussions, screenings, and exercises I gave the group to do during the session were very helpful because at the end of the day the participant all shared that they had learnt one or two things from the session.
I further established the fact that leading/moderating, public speaking and good presentation are part of my inherent skills/talents as these traits flew naturally through me during this session just like they do in other cases when I’ve had to perform activities that required them. I also established the fact that it will be a wise move to continuously keep making all necessary efforts towards the steady harnessing of these skills/talents.
However, at the end of the session, I noted down the areas that I needed improvement on as a chair. One of them was being able to engage my participants more with more exercises and more attractive presentation slides. I also strategized on what and what not to include in this my reflection as a chair that you have just finished reading. I reminded myself that identifying problems is good, but it's even better to strategize the means through which you can help the situation.
